Clipper Round the World
A 6,000-mile ocean race leg: Qingdao to Seattle, 2016.
In 2016 I knocked a big item off my bucket list. After a month of training in the south of the UK (around the Isle of Wight and the English Channel), I flew to Qingdao, China and embarked on an epic adventure. I spent 29 days at sea, sailing through the South China Sea, past the southern tip of Japan, and across the mighty Pacific toward Seattle, representing Great Britain on the Team GB boat.
While racking up 6,000+ ocean miles we endured sub-zero temperatures, 100-foot waves, and several epic storms with 100+ mph wind gusts, going on to place 4th out of 12 on this leg. I spent most of my time as bowman, the person at the front of the boat.
